Albert Park Yacht Club's season 2021-2022 is sure to be filled with many events in celebration of 150 years of sailing.

APYC, Albert Park Yacht Club, is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Australia. It began when the Colony of Victoria was only thirty-five years old, and Melbourne was a collection of townships.

The founders of APYC wanted sailing to fulfil the growing need that Melburnians had for recreation and entertainment and to make the new working-class suburb of Emerald Hill, now South Melbourne, a more interesting and sustainable society. Their first challenge was to create a lake in the area known as Albert Park. Many more challenges were to follow.

Yacht races for women and juniors began in the 1880s and recently there have been events for people with disabilities, vision impairment and learning difficulties. All have found a home at APYC.

We look forward to the next 150  : )
